Product Details

A Tassie is a paste or glass copy of a cameo or intaglio. Scottish gem engraver James Tassie created replicas of ancient agates and gemstones and together with Dr. Quin of Dublin, they came up with an opaque glass that could replicate various colors and patterns. Tassies were created using a molding process rather than carving.

An outstanding glass Tassie link bracelet from the Early Victorian (ca1850) era! This wonderful piece is made of 15kt yellow gold (indicating English origin) and is comprised of 10 intaglio style glass tassie links that form an incredible bracelet. Each oval shaped link is formed by a glass plaque with a unique image carved into the center. Surrounding the glass tassie is a bezel with a twisted gold rope border and the links vary in size, shape and color, including vivid green, blue, purple and red hues. The bracelet is graduated, with the largest links in the center and each individual link has a different carved image or symbol, all of which are very detailed and appear to revolve around ancient Roman history and mythology. The contrast between the vibrant yellow gold setting and deeply colored glass is very striking! Each link is open in the back, allowing the light to pass through. The bracelet fastens together with a push clasp, which is hidden seamlessly within one of the links. A truly incredible piece of art, this magnificent bracelet looks spectacular when worn and would make a very special addition to any collection!

Measurements: The bracelet measures approximately 7 1/4" long and 1/4" thick. The largest tassie link measures 1 1/8" wide and nearly 1" tall. The smallest link measures 5/8" wide and 1/2" tall.

Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the yellow gold setting and only minor surface wear to the glass Tassie links, all of which are intact. The push clasp is secure and in good working condition.
