Victorian 18kt Gold Repousse Earring Coach Covers
During the Victorian era, women would sometimes wear detachable orbs known as coach covers over their earrings. The covers were used to disguise diamond earrings while traveling and easily removed once at their destination, revealing the beautiful earrings inside.
These beautiful and unusual coach covers are particularly wonderful and from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Made of vibrant 18kt yellow gold, each orb has a textured, repousse surface, which closely resembles a gold nugget. The covers are hinged and almost appear seamless when closed and a small opening can be found at the top of each allowing the wearer to attach them to a drop earring or stud. Delicate and beautiful, they display wonderful artistry and would make a lovely addition to any collection!
Measurements: The earrings have an exterior diameter of 1/2" and are very light in weight.
Conditions: The overall condition of the earring coach covers is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and the hinges are secure and in good working condition.
