During the 19th century, the discoveries of ancient archaeological finds influenced what is referred to as "archaeological revival jewelry," or "Egyptian revival jewelry." The initial Egyptian Revival period flourished from the 1820s onward, and was inspired by ancient Egyptian imagery, such as the scarab beetle, sphinxes, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics.

A fantastic and very unusual rock crystal and onyx earring and necklace set from the Art Deco (ca1920) era! This beautiful Egyptian Revival set features a pair of dangling earrings and a long pendant necklace. Hanging from the base of the pendant and each earring is a matching rock crystal teardrop which displays a hand carved cameo face and a faceted back. The front surface of all three pieces is unpolished, and features a beautifully carved 3-dimensional portrait bust of an Egyptian queen, complete with a detailed headress. Each stone is capped in platinum and riveted into the top. The pendant hangs from a decorative extension, featuring a round rock quartz crystal link, with a sparkling old European Cut diamond bezel set at the center, and matching filigree back. An elongated onyx bead, flanked by a rock quartz crystal rondelle and onyx bead trails into the gorgeous 18kt white gold chain necklace. The necklace features a combination of ornate chain links with matching onyx and crystal bead clusters that are symmetrically placed throughout and fastens in the back with a spring ring clasp stamped with an "18K" gold purity mark.

The dangling earrings closely resemble the gorgeous design of the necklace, however they feature a slightly smaller sized teardrop rock crystal. The stunning stone is held by a matching platinum cap, which hangs from a similar onyx and rock quartz crystal beaded cluster. Resting at the top is a matching diamond studded rock quartz crystal topper featuring an earring post and back, allowing the earrings to swing with lovely movement. The combination of the carved rock crystal, rich, black onyx beads, and sparkling diamonds against the platinum setting is exquisite. Whether worn as a set or separated into two different looks, these pieces will make an incredible statement piece, and is a must have for the Egyptian Revival collector!

Measurements: The necklace measures approximately 26" long. The extension chain and large carved crystal hangs about 3 1/8" long, and the stone itself measures approximately 1 1/2" long, 1" wide, and 5/8" thick. Each earring hangs about 2 3/4" long, and the stone measures approximately 1 3/8" long, 3/4" wide, and 1/2" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the set is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the platinum and white gold setting or chain. The diamonds and rock quartz crystals are all intact and securely set and the onyx and rock crystal beads are secure. The clasp, earring posts and backs are secure and in good working condition. Two of the elongated onyx beads (one on the necklace and one on an earring) display subtle naturally occurring banding, which does not detract from the overall cohesive nature of the design.
