Art Deco Chinese 14kt Carved Amethyst Dangle Earrings
A fabulous pair of amethyst earrings from the Art Deco (ca1920) era! Crafted in 14kt yellow gold, these gorgeous earrings feature a decorative design that perfectly reflects their Chinese origin. At the base of each earring is a large, hand-carved amethyst stone, which hangs below a beautiful surmount. The carved stone forms the shape of the wonderful peach fruit, with a leafy stem at the top, appearing as if it is hanging from a tree. The peach tree and its fruit has special significance in Chinese culture: the tree is considered to be the tree of life and peaches are symbols of immortality and unity. Subtle etching decorates the surface, and the amethyst displays a wonderful shade of natural purple, with lovely light and dark purple inclusions throughout. The carved stone dangles freely from a round topper that adorns a gorgeous faceted amethyst in a smooth eyeglass setting. The vibrant yellow gold setting pairs perfectly against the regal purple hues and finishing the design is a simple wire at the top, allowing the earrings to swing with lovely movement. When worn, the earrings frame the face beautifully and would make an artistic addition to any vintage jewelry collection!
Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 1 7/8" long, measures about 5/8" wide, and is a little more than 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the yellow gold setting. The amethyst stones are intact and free of chips or scratches, except for what appears to be an internal crack at the top of one of the carved stones, which has since been repaired. The earring wires are secure and in good working condition.
