Victorian Mother of Pearl Horseshoe & Hooves Fob Pendant

SKU: 33769

$295 $595
A wonderful and unusual mother of pearl fob pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This substantial piece is comprised of two large mother of pearl charms, one hanging below the other. Both are hand carved to depict equestrian motifs: one is a pair of horse hooves, the other a lucky horseshoe. The natural mother of pearl has rich, iridescent cream color with a shimmery, high luster surface. The horseshoe is detailed with gold-filled findings to depict 7 horseshoe nails (always 7 for good luck!) and a riding crop that rests diagonally across the center. A gold-filled wire wraps around the base of each horse hoof and connects to a strand of chain on either side, from which the horseshoe hangs below. The gold filled accents are riveted securely in place and add wonderful detail, creating a 3-dimensional look. At the top of the piece is a swirled gold-filled adornment, which connects to a watch swivel clasp, perfect for attaching to a favorite chain. This unique equestrian-inspired piece is perfect for the equestrian enthusiast and would make a fabulous statement piece!

Measurements: The entire piece hangs approximately 5 5/8" long, from the top of the watch swivel clasp to the base of the horseshoe. The horse hooves measure 1 3/4" long and are 1/2" wide at the base of each hoof. The horseshoe is 1 1/4" tall and 1 1/8" wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is very good. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the carved Mother of Pearl charms or to the gold-filled setting and findings. The accents are riveted securely into place and are all intact. The watch swivel clasp fastens securely and is in good working condition. There is a natural patina present on the surface of the gold-filled setting, which is normal for a Victorian era piece and adds to the antiqued appearance.
