Victorian Brass French Paste Swivel Picture Frame + Mirror
A lovely French paste swivel picture frame and mirror from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This unique piece is crafted in solid brass and has a movable center which features a glass covered frame on one side and a mirror on the other. The rectangular-shaped middle has a swivel mechanism which allows it to easily flip from side to side yet easily stays securely in place. Encircling the glass center is a sparkling French paste border which carries around the entire exterior and a whimsical bow motif perfectly finishes the design, resting at the top. The back of the piece reveals a simple hinged bar stand, allowing it to sit securely upright. The frame opens from the front allowing you to store your own special photograph inside; currently, there is a simple rose colored piece of cloth behind the glass face. A beautiful Victorian piece, the frame has a fantastic and unusual design and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurements: The frame has overall exterior measurements of 5 1/4" tall, 3" wide and 5/8" in depth. The French paste border measures 1/4" wide, giving the exposed space for a photograph measuring 3 1/8" tall and slightly less than 2 1/8" wide.
Condition: The frame/mirror is in good overall antique condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the brass setting. All of the French paste stones are intact, however, due to age, some of the paste stones have yellowed slightly. The hinged bar stand as well as the swivel mechanism is secure and in good working order and the removable glass photo face is intact. There is some wear to the mirror, however, this could be replaced if desired and is not unusual for a piece from this era.
