Late Art Deco 14kt Petite Enameled Strawberry Pendant with Hidden Compartment
A wonderful and unique strawberry pendant from the late Art Deco (ca1930) era! This lovely piece is crafted in 14kt yellow gold and portrays the shape of a 3-dimensional wild strawberry. The surface of the fruit is beautifully decorated in a rich, red enamel, perfectly reflecting the light with every turn. Beneath the enamel is a hand-stamped etched pattern which gives the appearance of delicate seeds, creating a lovely textured appeal which is visible through the translucent enameling. Resting at the top is a leafy yellow gold cap, embellished with a fine dotted texture throughout. Adorning the center is a curved "stem" that also acts as the hinged lever to pull open the cap, revealing a hidden locket compartment which could hold a special memento or photograph, if desired. Attached to the side of the stem is a simple round bail, perfect for adding the piece to a favorite chain. The pendant has a wonderful 3-dimensional look with realistic detail throughout and is a fabulous and fun piece for any collector!
Measurements: The pendant hangs approximately 1" long (including the bail) and measures slightly less than 5/8" wide and thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the enameled surface. The bail and hinged compartment are secure and in good working condition.
