Late Georgian 12kt Foil Back "Garnet" Paste Maltese Cross Pendant Necklace

SKU: MWEC604

$2,995

An absolutely stunning "garnet" paste necklace from the late Georgian (ca1850s) era. Crafted in rosy 12kt gold, this fantastic piece is comprised of a beautiful Maltese cross which hangs from a "garnet" paste link chain. Five paste "garnets" come together to make up the substantial cross, each flat and foil-backed in their rose gold setting. The pendant hangs from a discrete bail behind the center link of the complementary chain, which is comprised of 29 vibrant paste "garnet " links that connect together to form a gorgeous collar chain. The oval-shaped stones graduate slightly in size and rest in a beautiful claw collet setting, a wonderful reflection of the Georgian era. The foil-backed paste "garnets" exhibit luscious, rich red hues, and are faceted along the edges, beautifully catching the light with every turn. Delicate connector loops attach each link together, allowing the necklace to form a flexible design that drapes comfortably along the neckline, and a push clasp is hidden within one of the garnet bezels, seamlessly incorporated into the design. This gorgeous necklace would make a fantastic addition to any collection.

Measurements: The necklace measures 18.5" in length. The cross hangs 1 1/2" long and is 1 1/2" wide. The largest garnet in the collar necklaces measures 3/4" by 1/2". The smallest garnet (in which the push clasp is hidden) measures approximately 3/8" by 1/2".

Condition: The necklace is in overall very good antique condition. There is slight abrasion to some of the paste "garnets", commensurate with age, but the stones are intact and securely set. There is no apparent damage to the gold setting, though there is evidence of an old repair that does not interfere with the integrity of the piece.
