In French, fleur-de-lys means "lily flower." Decorative ornaments that resemble the fleur-de-lys have appeared in artwork from the earliest human civilizations. It has consistently been used as a royal emblem, though different cultures have interpreted its meaning in various ways.

An absolutely magnificent onyx fleur-de-lys locket/pendant from the late Victorian (ca1900s) era! This gorgeous piece is crafted in solid onyx which is carved into a substantial oval-shaped plaque. The front of the locket has a smooth, concave center and a faceted border encircles the outside edge. Riveted into the center is a sterling-topped 14kt gold fleur-de-lys which has a diamond encrusted face. The sparkling old Rose Cut diamonds are prong set and cover the entire surface, catching the light beautifully with every movement. Riveted into the top is a 14kt gold bail that is detailed with a simple black enameled design. On the back of the onyx locket is a gold framed locket which has the original hair memento behind glass. It's a magnificent piece from the Victorian era and would make a great addition to any collection!

Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 1/8" long, is 1 1/4" wide and 3/8" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the onyx locket or to the enameled bail. There is no apparent damage to the silver and gold setting of the fleur-de-lys and all of the diamonds are intact.
