Victorian Sterling Horseshoe + Riding Crop "SOUVENIR" Pendant

SKU: 42730

$295
A charming horseshoe pendant from the Victorian (ca1887) era! This wonderful sterling silver conversion piece forms the shape of a large horseshoe adorned with a riding crop at the center. The surface is detailed with 7 "nails" that flank the word "SOUVENIR" (French for "remember"), with the lovely raised design surrounded by soft etching. A 3-dimensional riding crop rests diagonally across the center, complete with a textured handle that beautifully curls around the crop. Delicate beaded accents decorate the edge of the horseshoe, adding a wonderful visual effect, and finishing the design is a simple bail at the top, perfect for hanging from a favorite chain. Stamped on the back are several English hallmarks, including a lion, an anchor, indicating it was assayed in Birmingham, and the date letter "n," dating the piece to 1887, along with the Sydenham Brothers ("S.BROS") maker's mark. A beautiful and unique piece, perfect for the equestrian lover!

Measurements: The pendant hangs approximately 1 7/8" long (including the bail), measures about 1 1/4" wide, and is 1/8" thick.

Condition: The piece is in overall good antique condition with slight wear on the back that commesurates with age. The bail is secure and intact. There is a subtle darkened patina which is common given the age of the piece and adds a wonderful contrast next to the polished surface.
