A signet ring can be represented by a smooth or engraved seal, or with an intaglio, which is created by carving into the surface of a stone. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.
A beautiful fox signet ring from the late Art Deco (ca1930) era! Crafted in vibrant 14kt yellow gold, this piece adorns an oval-shaped face and a smooth center topped with a fantastic fox face. The 3-dimensional face depicts a sly fox, complete with two sparkling blue sapphires representing its eyes. The carved details are incredible, including soft fur, a long nose, and two pointed ears that extend past the signet edge, creating a wonderful visual effect! The wide shoulders of the band are smoothly polished and taper towards the back. Stamped on the inside of the centerpiece is a "14K" gold purity mark next to a maker's mark. This incredible ring is simply stunning, and would look equally wonderful worn by a woman or a man!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 6 but could easily be resized. The centerpiece measures approximately 3/8" wide and 1/2" tall and rests 1/4" above the finger when worn. The graduated band measures 1.5mm at the back.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The sapphires are intact and securely set.
