A signet ring can be represented by a smooth or engraved seal, or with an intaglio, which is created by carving into the surface of a stone. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.

A wonderful signet ring with a hidden locket component from the late Art Deco (ca1930) era! This fabulous sterling silver piece has a smooth, octagonal shaped seal at the center that could be left plain or engraved, if desired. The seal opens on the side to reveal a small hidden compartment, a perfect place to store a picture or special memento. The wide shoulders of the ring boast a slightly raised geometric design, which create a wonderful Art Deco appeal, and the smoothly polished band graduates towards the back. There is a faded hallmark stamped along the inside of the shank. Perfect for everyday wear, this wonderful unisex ring could be worn by either a man or woman, and would make a wonderful everyday addition to any collection!

Measurements: The ring has a large finger size 6, but it could be resized. The seal in the center measures a little more than 1/2" tall and wide and rests 1/8" above the finger when worn. The graduated band measures 4mm wide at the back.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the sterling silver setting and the locket face is in good working order.
