Victorian 14kt Eagle and Globe Repousse Signet Ring

SKU: 37787

$1,295
A signet ring can be represented by a smooth or engraved seal, or with an intaglio, which is created by carving into the surface of a stone. Its purpose would have been to seal the wax of a letter or note.

A very handsome repousse signet ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Made of 14kt yellow gold, the ring has a large oval-shaped face with a set of monogrammed initials engraved in the center. On either side of the signet is decorative repousse design, which depicts a majestic eagle perched atop a globe, its wings outstretched as if preparing to take flight. Eagles have long been considered symbols of freedom, strength, and patriotism. Historically, they have been incorporated into jewelry designs dating back to the pre-Victorian eras, and are often present in family crests and seals. This particular design is beautifully sculpted and lends itself perfectly to everyday wear. The piece is stamped "14K" on the back of the signet, and has a heavy, substantial look and feel. A fantastic signet ring, it would make an excellent men's ring, or could be an interesting statement ring worn by a woman!

Measurements: Due the shape of the inside of the shank, the exact finger size of the ring is difficult to determine. However, it would accommodate a finger size approximately between 6.75 and 7. The ring could be resized up or down slightly if desired. The overall pennyweight of the ring is 10.6 dwt.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or repousse design.
