BAILEY BANKS & BIDDLE Victorian 18kt Peridot Intaglio Signet Ring
The opposite of a cameo, an intaglio is created by carving below the surface to produce an image in relief with the purpose of pressing into sealing wax.
A stunning intaglio ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era by legendary maker Bailey, Banks & Biddle! Crafted in 18kt yellow gold, this fabulous piece features a gorgeous peridot stone set within the center. The bezel set stone is oval in shape and faceted in the back, allowing its soft green color to beautifully catch the light, showcasing the detailed image in the center. The hand carved image, which is of a family crest, features the Latin phrase "OMNIA BONA BONIS" which translates to "To the good all things are good" along a curved banner at the bottom of a very detailed carving. The mounting of the ring has a smoothly polished surface and the graduated band completes the stunning design. Stamped along the shank is "BB&B" and "18K" along with the hand engraved name "B. H. Barbey." This ring rests comfortably on the finger when worn and would make a fabulous addition to any collection!
Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 6.25 but could easily be resized. The peridot stone measures approximately 3/8" tall and a little over 1/4" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold surface or peridot stone which is secure and intact.
