Victorian Gold-Filled Micro Mosaic Vatican City Pin Set

SKU: 42001

$495
A wonderful micro mosaic pin set from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This detailed two-piece set is quite remarkable, featuring the same design concept conceived in two unique shapes. Both pins display an intricate image created entirely with small micro mosaic tiles. The artistic scenes depict the Vatican, specifically with a view of St. Peter's Square that includes the Basilica and Obelisk. Each tiny micro mosaic tile has been meticulously cut and individually hand set, bringing the image to life in incredible detail. The delicate mosaic handiwork is so fine that it almost resembles a painting, complete with pillared and domed Roman architecture, and bursting fountains in the square. Each mosaic image is framed within a gold-filled setting, one embellished with a twisted wire "rope" border, and the other with delicate beadwork. The backs reveal simple bar pin clasps, perfect for fastening the brooches to a favorite garment. A wonderful example of antique micro mosaic jewelry, this beautiful pin set would make a special addition to any collection!

Measurements: The oval-shaped pin measures 1 1/8" wide, 3/4" tall, and 1/8" thick. The diamond-shaped pin measures 1" wide and tall, and 3/16" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the pin set is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold-filled settings or to the micro mosaic images, which remain intact and free of any noticeable chips or scratches. The pin clasps are secure and in good working condition.
