SKU: 42686

$695

French paste is a vintage jewelry term used to describe the practice of using faceted cut glass, cut in the shape of a real gemstone, instead of using gems. This process, which was developed in the 1700s, created the look of a sparkling gemstone or diamond but cost much less than real stones.

A gorgeous French Paste pendant necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in 14kt rose gold with sterling silver accents, this fantastic octagonal shaped slide pendant hangs at the center of a simple chain. Resting atop the slide is a sterling silver fly featuring lovely realistic details, including carved "veined" wings, a textured back, and two delicate beady eyes. Set within the back of the insect's head is a vibrant blue French Paste accent stone, providing a wonderful pop of color to the design. A simple rose gold link chain is looped through the slide, allowing it to move freely up and down the necklace, which fastens in the back with a spring ring clasp. This unique and beautifully crafted pendant necklace would make a special addition to any collection! !

Measurements: The necklace measures 16.5" in total length. The slide pendant hangs  1/2" long, measures about 3/5" wide, and is slightly less than 1/4" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the slide pendant necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the rose gold and sterling silver setting. The French Paste stone is intact and securely set. The spring ring clasp is secure and in good working condition.
