Product Details

A jabot pin or brooch features two adornments that rest on either side of a single bar pin in the center. When worn, the center pin is hidden behind the fabric of the garment, giving the illusion that the two ornaments are floating seamlessly on the surface. The name of this particular style traces back to the 17th century, when men's shirts and women's dresses were often adorned with a dangling ruffle called a "jabot," which was secured in place with a pin. Their popularity resurfaced during the Art Deco era, when Cartier produced bejeweled jabot pins in the 1920s and 1930s.

A beautiful jabot pin from the Art Deco (ca1920) period! This lovely piece is crafted in sterling silver and has a wonderful gemstone-encrusted design. With matching ends, each side carries an identical teardrop shape, both adorning twenty eight closed back French paste stones and nine square cut onyx stones. The surface of the teardrops are completely encrusted with stones and open cutouts and fine milgraining throughout perfectly complete the Art Deco look beautifully. In between the two ends is a long sterling bar. To fasten the pin, simply pull the one side out of the tail, and a sharp, pointed end for piercing through a fabric garment is revealed. A beautiful example of an antique jabot pin, it would look wonderful worn everyday or saved for special occasions!

Measurements: The total length of the pin measures 3 5/8" long from end to end. When removed from the tail, the teardrop pin topper measures 1" long and 1/2" wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the pin is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting, and all of the French paste and onyx stones are intact. The pin can be removed easily and fastens securely into place when worn.
