Victorian Large Sterling + Scottish Agate Buckle Pin

SKU: 22550

$695

An unusual Scottish agate pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This lovely 3-dimensional piece is crafted in sterling silver, and forms the shape of a large, circular buckle. Beautiful Scottish agate stones have been inlaid into the surface of the buckle strap and circular border, adding a wonderful pop of color. The polished agate stones include earthy shades of orange, yellow, beige, grey, and white, with naturally occurring inclusions that create a marbled appearance. An embossed pattern decorates the surface of the silver, forming a flowing design of scrolls and swirls. Set on the back of the piece is a bar pin and "c-catch" clasp, perfect for fastening the brooch to a favorite garment. Thanks to its substantial size, this impressive pin would make quite an eye-catching accessory, and would look beautiful paired with other sterling pieces!

Measurement: The pin measures 1 1/2" in diameter, and is about 1/2" thick.

Condition: The pin is in good antique condition. There is some surface wear present throughout the sterling setting, including some solder on the underside where the clasp was attached, and some minor dings and dents along the sides and back, which are not visible when the piece is worn. All of the Scottish agate stones are intact, though a few have minor chips along the edges. However, there are no significant chips or deep scratches. The pin clasp fastens securely and is in good working condition. There is a natural patina that gives a darkened appearance to the silver, which is a normal characteristic of antique jewelry. If desired, the silver could be polished for a brighter appearance.
