Art Nouveau 14kt Carved Moonstone "Man in the Moon" Sunburst Pendant
A gorgeous and artistic moonstone pendant from the Art Nouveau (ca1913) era! This whimsical piece is crafted in 14kt yellow gold, and features an alluring carved moonstone at the center of a decorative border. The celestial design portrays a recognizable "Man in the Moon" face, which has intricately carved facial features and a realistic 3-dimensional look. The bezel set and closed back stone exhibits a lovely translucence and iridescent blue flash when turned in the light. A delicate beaded border surrounds the moonstone, followed by an outer border of gold "sun rays" that fan out from the center, each lined with beautifully etched accents. The combination of the sunburst rays paired with the central "Man in the Moon" face gives the piece a wonderful "Sun and Moon" appeal. Completing the design is a simple bail at the top, and engraved on the back is the year "1913" written in a lovely script. A very special piece, it would make a unique addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The pendant hangs approximately 1 1/8" long (including the bail at the top), and measures about 1" wide, and 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. The carved moonstone is intact and securely set, and is free of any noticeable chips or surface scratches. The bail is secure and in good working order.
