Art Deco Chinese Sterling Gilt Large Coral Cabochon Ring
An unusual and bold coral ring from the Art Deco era! This striking piece, which is Chinese in origin, is crafted in gilded sterling silver and features an oval-shaped coral stone set in its center. The natural coral cabochon is smoothly polished and particularly large in size, with fantastic deep reddish orange color. The stone rests in a bezel setting and is encircled by a frame of three layers of textured wirework. The shoulders of the mounting each display a raised design of a single bunch of grapes topped with a leaf and accented by two gilded silver beads on either side. The graduating band of the ring is adjustable and can be tightened or loosened without professional sizing and the shank is stamped with two Chinese characters. This fabulous ring would make a beautiful addition to any collection!
Measurements: If worn without adjusting the size in any way, the ring has a finger size of an approximate 9.5, but could easily be resized using the current adjustable band. Please note that although it is adjustable, it does not appear to be able to adjust to a significantly smaller size in the current condition; if a much smaller size is needed, professional sizing would be recommended. The coral stone measures approximately 1" tall and a little less than 3/4" at the widest point. When worn, the ring rests 1/2" atop the finger.
Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gilded sterling setting or to the large coral stone.
