Georgian 18kt Green Tourmaline + Pink Sapphire Handmade Necklace
An incredible gemstone pendant from the Georgian (ca1750) era! This remarkable pendant is handcrafted in 18kt gold, and now hangs from a modern 14kt gold chain. The design is modeled after a wheel, with small gold loops around the perimeter, through which the fine chain is threaded. A colorful ensemble of gemstones decorate the center of the pendant, including 8 pink sapphire cabochons, and a faceted green tourmaline in the middle. Each stone varies in size, shape, and color variation, and all are foil-backed, resting within a handmade bezel setting. Delicate gold wirework accents rest in between each pink sapphire, and a textured gold border surrounds the green tourmaline in the center. When worn, the modern chain displays the pendant prominently, fastening with a spring ring clasp in the back. A simply gorgeous gemstone piece, this necklace would make a special addition to any Georgian jewelry collection!
Measurements: The necklace measures 16" long. The Georgian pendant measures 1" in diameter, and is about 1/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the piece. Due to the age and handmade nature of this Georgian piece, there is not perfect symmetry or uniformity throughout the design. This is highly characteristic of Georgian jewelry, and adds to its unique beauty, character, and antique value. The gemstones display some natural inclusions, and there is a patina on the surface of the gold setting. The modern gold chain is in excellent condition, and the spring ring clasp fastens securely.
