Victorian French 18kt/Sterling Turquoise + Pearl Pansy Flower Locket
A beautiful pansy locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This unusual French-made piece is crafted in 18kt gold and topped in sterling silver. Covering the surface of the pansy are beautiful pavé turquoise stones, which display a wonderful range of natural blue and green colors. Delicate seed pearls line the center of each petal, while a larger natural pearl rests at the center of the flower. The slightly curved petals add to the 3-dimensional look of the pansy, which hangs from a decorative gold link and bail at the top. The pansy has a 3-dimensional look and is intricately decorated with layered petals and etched details. On the back of the flower is an open-faced locket compartment covered by a removable glass window, perfect for storing a special photograph inside! Stamped on the back of the bail are two small French hallmarks, including the eagle head stamp. A beautiful work of art, this locket would look lovely worn on a favorite chain!
Measurements: The pendant hangs 2 1/4" long (including the bail). The turquoise pansy measures 1 1/8" at the widest point and has a depth of 3/8".
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and sterling setting. The glass locket window is intact and free of chips or scratches. All of the pearls and turquoise stones are intact. The bail at the top is securely attached.
