During the 19th century, the discoveries of ancient archaeological finds influenced and introduced what is referred to as "archaeological revival jewelry," or "Egyptian revival jewelry." The initial Egyptian Revival period flourished from the 1820s and was inspired by ancient Egyptian imagery, such as the scarab beetle, sphinxes, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics. Some pieces were crafted using a material known as Egyptian "faience", which is the oldest form of non-clay glazed ceramic, and is often found in a range of blue and green colors.

This fabulous Egyptian Revival faience scarab ring is a Vintage piece from the 1960s! Crafted in sterling silver, the ring displays a fantastic faience scarab beetle at the front. The beetle has wonderful hand carved details and stunning turquoise blue color, which looks magnificent resting in the soft silver setting. A silver pin spears the scarab invisibly through the center, fastening it to the sterling frame to form a unique flip-style ring. The design allows the beetle to swivel completely forwards and backwards, and the underside of the scarab reveals carved details that resemble ancient hieroglyphics. The mounting has a lovely and simple design featuring a bezel setting around the scarab and a smoothly polished band. A very unusual piece, it would make a special addition to any Egyptian Revival collection!

Measurements: The ring has a finger size of 6.25, but it could easily be resized. The scarab beetle centerpiece measures approximately 3/8" tall, 5/8" wide and 3/8" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting or to the carved faience scarab, which is intact and securely set. The swivel feature moves freely and easily.
