During the 19th century, the discoveries of ancient archaeological finds influenced and brought on what is referred to as "archaeological revival jewelry," or "Egyptian revival jewelry." The initial Egyptian Revival period flourished from the 1820s and became extremely popular, continuing well into the 1920s. The style was inspired by ancient Egyptian imagery, such as the scarab beetle, sphinxes, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics.

A fabulous micro mosaic scarab ring from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This 9kt gold piece features an oval-shaped centerpiece adorned with an exceptional micro mosaic design that rests on a simple band. The image features tiny tiles of vividly colored glass that have been hand set to form an ornate scarab beetle motif. The lovely beetle displays a variety of matte and iridescent shades, including vivid orange, green, gold, and red hues. The insect lays on a bed of white mosaic tiles lined with a scalloped black border, allowing the colorful image to come to life. A rosy gold bezel surrounds the design, which rests on a smooth band that wraps around the back. Stamped inside of the shank is "9" and "GT." A wonderful example of Egyptian Revival jewelry from the Victorian era, this charming and gorgeous ring blend perfectly into modern day fashion!

Measurements: The ring has a finger size 7.25. The oval centerpiece measures approximately 5/8" tall and about 1/2" wide, and rests approximately 1/4" above the finger when worn. The band measures 1.5mm wide at the back.

Condition: The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. All of the tiles within the mosaic design appear to be intact and secure.
