Victorian Sterling Silver "Swinging Bell" Fob

SKU: 6278

$395

fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket.

An unusual sterling silver fob from the Victorian era (ca1880)!  This decorative piece features a swinging bell that hangs at the center. Surrounding the bell is an elaborate framework design, with swirled accents and engraved texture. At the base of the fob is a smooth seal, which is engraved with a set of initials that read "J.M." Completing the design is a looped wire bail at the top, perfect for hanging the piece from a favorite chain. Two small hallmarks are stamped on the back, but are now partially faded due to wear. A unique Victorian piece, it is perfect for the antique fob collector!

Measurements: The piece hangs 2" long, (including the bail at the top), measures 1" wide, and 5/8" thick.

Condition: The piece is in very good antique condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting. The swinging bell at the center is intact and the bail at the top of the piece is securely attached. There is a natural patina on the surface of the setting, which is a normal characteristic of antique jewelry, and adds further depth to the design.
