WALTER LAMPL Large Vintage Sterling Silver Padlock Pendant
Walter Lampl was an ambitious New York City jeweler whose rags-to-riches story marked the beginnings of a successful career. At the age of 26, he opened a wholesale jewelry business in 1921, and eventually commissioned several female designers whose work he oversaw and and approved from page to product. His quality jewelry included colorful gemstone designs, unique charms, and popular pins. Multiple designs originated as gifts for his beloved wife Sylvia (whom he called "Toots"), later evolving into designs available to the rest of his clientele. His enthusiasm, charismatic personality, and humorous motto "Creators of the Unusual, As Usual" made him a much beloved man whose legacy extended far beyond the end of his life. Authentic vintage Walter Lampl pieces are still fashionable today and have become quite collectible!
A fabulous sterling pendant from jewelry designer Walter Lampl! This beautiful Vintage piece (ca1940s) is crafted in sterling silver and depicts the shape of a simple padlock charm pendant which is particularly large in size. The front and back of the piece have a smooth, polished finish with 5 stud nails along the border. At the center of the front, is a cutout keyhole which is not functional, simply there for detail and a curved handle rests at the top with a push opening clasp at the side. The bottom of the padlock is stamped "STERLING" with the Walter Lampl "WL" hallmark. It’s a beautiful piece and would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurements: The padlock charm pendant measures approximately 2" tall, 1 1/2" wide and is 1/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is great. Besides surface wear, including some fine surface scratches on both sides, a nick at the bottom and a few minor dents on the back, there is no serious damage to the sterling padlock. The clasp is secure and in good working condition.
