The word "MIZPAH" (sometimes written as "Mizpeh") is the Hebrew word for "watchtower," and a name from the Bible. Although it generally refers to a place near Gilead, it first appears in the book of Genesis, where it references a stone monument built by Jacob and Laban as a covenant of peace. The pillar of stones represented a bond between Jacob and Laban, leading the word "Mizpah" to hold a similar meaning. In Laban's words, "The Lord watch between you and me, when we are absent one from the other." The word "Mizpah" has henceforth become recognized as a symbolic bond between two people, even when in absence of one another.

A gorgeous and unusual "Mizpah" bracelet from Art Nouveau (ca1900) era! This unique bangle is crafted in sterling silver and displays the Hebrew word "MIZPAH" across the front surface. The raised letters are displayed in a lovely script, and flanking each side is a gorgeous flowing floral design, complete with delicate beaded accents in the same raised appeal. An intricate dotted texture adorns the background, showcasing the smoothly polished raised design perfectly. The back of the bracelet is left smooth and stamped on the inside is a "STERLING" purity mark. The hinged bangle fastens on the side with a simple push clasp and safety chain, for extra security. It's a beautiful piece with sentimental meaning, and would make a perfect jewelry addition whether worn alone or stacked with other pieces!

Measurements:  The inside of the bracelet, where a wrist would rest, measures approximately 2 1/4" wide and 1 3/4" tall, and would fit best on a medium to average sized wrist. The surface measures a little less than 1/4" wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting. The clasp and safety chain are secure and in good working condition.
