SKU: 41432

$595
fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. The fob would have been used to seal the wax of a letter or note.

A stunning figural fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Crafted in .835 purity silver, this equestrian-inspired piece depicts a horse shown in mid-trot. The realistic appearance includes sculpted features, a textured mane, and individual facial features. Its hooves rest above a textured platform at the base. The detail of the three-dimensional image is simply exceptional, displaying excellent Victorian craftsmanship. In the middle of the horse's back is a silver loop (stamped 835), perfect for hanging the piece from a favorite chain. Stamped on the side of its body is a small "AUSTRIA" mark. Figural fobs are very collectible, and this one is particularly stunning. This wonderful piece is perfect for the equestrian enthusiast!

Measurements: The fob hangs 1 3/8" long. The oval base of the fob measures 1" long, 3/4" wide and 1/2" thick. The piece has a pennyweight of 10.1dwt

Condition: The overall condition of the fob is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting or silver jump ring, which is securely attached. There is a natural patina on the surface of the piece, which is a common characteristic of antique jewelry, and adds further depth to the three-dimensional design.
