Art Deco Sterling Guilloché Enamel Crystal Perfume Bottle Set
Guilloché, in English usually Guilloche, is an engraving technique in in which a very precise, intricate pattern is mechanically etched into an underlying material with very fine detail. Most commonly, the Guilloche surface was then enameled and the repetitive, intricate design would show through the colorful enamel.
This beautiful perfume bottle set from the Art Deco (ca1920) era is wonderful example of Guilloché enamel work! Made of sterling silver and cut crystal, the set consists of four matching perfume bottles that rest within a fitted sterling holder. There are two larger bottles and two smaller bottles, each with an interesting angled design and matching topper. The neck of each bottle is decorated with a lovely sky blue Guilloche enamel design framed in sterling silver. The stoppers themselves are made of tall faceted crystal ovals that catch the light beautifully. Holding the four bottles is a complimentary sterling and blue Guilloché carrier, which has an enameled base and top and is open in the middle. A hinged sterling handle makes the piece easy to lift and transport if desired. Although the set was originally for holding ladies' perfume, it would also make a simple decorative element. The top of each bottle is stamped "925" along with 2 other makers marks. It would make a perfect addition to any collection!
Measurements: Each bottle measures approximately 3" tall, and the crystal topper rests 1 1/8" above the top edge. The carrier measures 2 3/4" by 2" and the handle is 2" tall.
Condition: The overall condition of the set is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the sterling setting, enameling or cut crystal, and all four bottles are original and intact.
