LALAOUNIS Vintage 18kt Sodalite Bangle Bracelet 39.9 dwt
Prolific jewelry designer Ilias Lalaounis was born in Athens, Greece in 1920. Descending from a family of goldsmiths, he apprenticed under his uncle's jewelry firm to become a master craftsman. In 1941 he took over the family business, and later developed a vision for his signature style during the 1950s. Inspired by his passion for prehistoric motifs, artifacts, and Greek mythology, he studied traditional methods of artistry, branching out on his own in the 1960s to form his own company. In the decades that followed, his work blossomed into a myriad of fine jewelry collections that earned widespread appeal and designer status. Adored by celebrities and the fashion elite, designs by LALAoUNIS remain in high demand among collectors and jewelry lovers in the modern day!
This fabulous vintage bracelet by LALAoUNIS is a spectacular example of the designer's signature style! This stunning 18kt yellow gold piece adorns two sodalite cabochons resting at either end, both meeting at the front of this "clamper" or "torque" style bangle. The polished stones display a wonderful range of navy and royal blue hues, with lovely grey and white marbling throughout. A fabulous hammered finish graces the gold surface of the bangle, and four carved bands wrap around the base of each stone. The bracelet features a hinge at the back, expanding to accommodate the wearer's wrist, and closing gently together at the front, for a snug and secure fit. Inside the bangle is a small plaque with several markings, including the signature "ILIAS LALALOUNIS" hallmark, the maker's hallmark symbol, a "750" gold purity mark, and "A21 GREECE." Perfect for the fashion-forward woman or the LALAoUNIS collector, this magnificent bangle is a rare and special find!
Measurements: When closed, the bracelet opening (where a wrist would rest), measures approximately 2 1/4" wide and 1 3/8" tall and would fit nicely on a small to average sized wrist. The surface of the bracelet measures approximately 3/8” thick at the back, and the sodalite stones measure 5/8" in diameter at the front. The overall pennyweight of the piece is 39.9 dwt (62 grams).
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the yellow gold setting. The hinged design is in good working condition. There is very minor chip on the tip of a sodalite stone, where the stones make contact. However, due to its location, it is not noticeable when worn.
