Vintage Sterling French Paste Stud Earrings + Pendant Set
French paste is a Vintage jewelry term used to describe the practice of using faceted cut glass, cut in the shape of a real gemstone, instead of using real gems. This process, which was developed in the 1700's, created the look of a sparkling gemstone or diamond but cost much less than real stones.
A stunning vintage French paste earring and pendant set! Each sterling silver piece adorns a single sparkling French paste crystal, which is held within an open-back prong setting. The stones are all beautifully faceted, catching the light beautifully with every turn, very similar to real diamonds! A smoothly polished surface wraps around the base of each stone, stamped "STERLING" on one of the earring studs. A simple round bail is attached at the top of the pendant, perfect for hanging from a favorite chain, and an earring post and back rests behind each earring stud. Whether worn separately or as a set, this piece makes a gorgeous statement that is perfect for day or night!
Measurements: Each French paste setting measures a little less than 1/2" in diameter and is approximately 1/4" thick. The pendant hangs about 3/4" long, including the bail at the top.
Condition: The overall condition of the set is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver settings. The faceted crystals are securely set, however, one of the earring crystals has a couple very minor chips along the edge which are only visible under close examination; the remaining two crystals show no visible sign of damage. The bail is secure and in good working condition.
