Victorian 14kt Flexible Cage Link Griffin Necklace
A fantastic and unusual gold chain from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This unique handmade piece is comprised of a wide cage link chain, which forms a flexible snake-like necklace made of 14kt yellow gold. The chain fastens together in the center at an ornate clasp that depicts the head and tail of a mythological Griffin. The Griffin has swirled and engraved detail resembling realistic feathers and facial features, with two garnet stones for eyes. A gold watch clasp fastens into a loop attached to the Griffin's mouth, linking the two ends of the necklace together. The inside of the swivel clasp is stamped "14K". This stylish and unique piece could make a statement worn on its own, or could be paired with other chunky gold chains for a fashionable layered look. A simply gorgeous piece, it would make a fabulous addition to any collection!
Measurements: The chain measures 16.5" long from end to end and is 1/4" wide and thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the chain is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold cage links, and the clasp fastens securely and is in good working condition. Both garnets are intact and securely set.
