An exquisite and collectable double sided locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era. This stunning piece is made of 14kt rosy yellow gold and round in shape. On the front is the raised body of a lion which has a single ruby set in the eye and a larger ruby at the base, resting underneath one of the paws. The lion has a fierce expression on his face and a wonderfully textured body and mane. On the reverse side is an ornate symbol comprised of a maltese cross in the background and the number 35 as well as POG at the center. Possibly a symbol of Freemasonry, the symbol is beautifully ornate, using a layered, applique design as well as mixed metals. The interior reveals the glass covered black and white image of a woman as well as the numbers "7995" and the hallmark "14K" & "M.E. Co.". This fabulous piece would make a lovely addition to ones collection of fine Victorian.
