An absolutely fabulous English gold locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! The locket, which is particularly large in size, is made of 15kt yellow gold and has a unique raised shield design that sits on the front face. The crest is detailed with delicate natural pearls and cabochon coral stones, all bead set within the design. The natural pearls have a lovely luster and the color of the coral is a peachy pink hue that compliments the pearls beautifully. The back of the locket is engraved with an intricately detailed set of initials: "A" and "M" and the locket is hinged at the side and opens to reveal spaces to store your favorite photographs. At the top of the piece is a large, fluted gold bail allowing the locket to hang from a chain. A marvelous Victorian piece, it has a wonderful look and would make a fantastic addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 3/4" long, 1 5/8" wide and is 3/4" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the gold and all of the coral and pearls are intact. There is some normal wear to the surface of the gold on the back which is normal for any Victorian piece. The locket opens easily and fastens shut securely, and the bail is in good working condition.
