Victorian 15kt Inlaid Gold Quartz Locket

SKU: 42271

$4,995

Gold-in-quartz was formed while the earth was still in its molten state. During the cooling and solidification process, veins of gold became trapped with the crystals of quartz in the mine. This created a very dramatic contrast between the white quartz and the yellow of the gold. Jewelry crafted from gold quartz became quite a fashion statement of the 1880's.

An unusual and gorgeous gold quartz locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This 15kt rosy gold piece resembles the shape of a shield, and is adorned with incredible pieces of inlaid gold quartz across the front surface. The face of the piece is divided into 3 plaques of stone, each separated by thin veins of gold to complete the design. The gold quartz is especially beautiful, exhibiting a range of colors including milky white, grey, beige, and marbled with flecks of vibrant gold. The back of the locket displays a smooth surface, with a lovely inscription in a beautiful script that reads: "Auren Barr to Auren Garrett." A hinge at the top allows the locket to open, revealing two spaces for special photographs inside. A decorative bail and gold loop at the top is perfect for hanging the pendant from a favorite chain. This unique and gorgeous locket is a wonderful Victorian piece, and would make a stunning addition to any collection!

Measurements: The pendant hangs approximately 1 7/8" long (including the loop at the top) and measures about 1" wide and 1/4" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. All of the inlaid gold quartz stones are intact and securely set. The bail and locket hinge mechanism are secure and in good working order. One of the glass frames remains intact inside the locket.
