A wonderful sterling pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This lovely and unusual piece is made of sterling silver and was originally a round pill box, which has since been converted to wear as a unique pendant. The front of the pendant features a round tortoise shell plaque, which has a rich, deep color and polished finish. A decorative border comprised of delicate sterling balls runs all the way around the perimeter of the piece, completing the design. The lid can be lifted to reveal an empty compartment inside, which originally may have been used as a pill box, but could also hold a photograph or small object inside. The pendant swings freely from the large fluted sterling bail at the top, which is wide enough to to accommodate a large or small chain. The back of the piece is stamped "BENZIGER BROS", "STERLING", "SS", and "994". The inside of the piece is also marked "29." An simple yet beautiful Victorian piece, it makes a unique pendant and would look fabulous worn everyday!

Measurements: The piece hangs 1 7/8" long, has a diameter of 1 1/4" and is 3/8" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the silver setting or tortoise shell which is intact. The lid opens easily and closes securely and the bail is secure and in good working condition.
