An absolutely gorgeous bug pin from the Late Victorian (ca1900) era! This incredible piece, which is French in origin, is crafted in sterling silver and depicts an open winged bug. The pin, which is fairly large in size, has a body and head represented by three open backed, pronged set amethyst stones, which have a beautiful purple color. Delicate natural seed pearls line the wings and represent the eyes and curled antennae sprout from the top of the head. Six bent legs peek out from the underside of the body and a secure bar pin and c-catch clasp can be found underneath, perfect for fastening the piece to a favorite garment. Found along the c-catch clasp is a French owl hallmark. A wonderful example of late Victorian gemstone insect jewelry, this unusual brooch would make a special addition to any antique collection!

Measurements: The pin measures 3/4" at its widest, is 1 5/8" long and has a depth of approximately 1/2".

Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting and all of the stones are intact. The pin clasp are secure and in good working condition.
