A simply wonderful pearl, sapphire, ruby, and diamond bug pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! The pin is made of 14kt rosy yellow gold and topped in sterling silver and depicts an ornate bug which sits atop a bar pin. The large winged bug has a body made of three old Rose Cut sapphires and wide open wings that are encrusted with old Rose Cut diamonds. A sparkling diamond can be found resting atop the bug's back and two small cabochon rubies represent its eyes. It has six 14kt yellow gold bent legs that peek out from the underside of the bug. The pin has a wonderful 3-dimensional look with lovely detail throughout. The bug rests on top of bar pin, which holds a stunning natural Mississippi River pearl at the end. On the underside is a secure c-catch pin clasp. It's a lovely piece and would make a beautiful addition to any collection!
Measurement: The pin measures approximately 1 7/8" long, about 3/4" at its widest, and has a depth of slightly less than 1/2".
Condition: The overall condition of this pin is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting and the pearl and all of the diamonds, sapphires, and rubies are intact. The pin clasp is secure and in good working condition.
