Victorian French 18kt/Sterling Diamond Star Pocket Watch 2ctw

SKU: 44014

$14,995

An absolutely exquisite diamond pocket watch from the Victorian (1880s) era! French in origin, this exceptional piece is crafted in 18kt gold and sterling silver, creating a subtle mixed metals appeal. On one side of the watch is an incredible six-point star motif encrusted with sparkling old Rose Cut diamonds, the other displays the open face watch dial. The sparkling stones weigh approximately 2.00ctw combined and brilliantly catch the light with every turn.

The watch opens at a secure bottom hinge to reveal four sections: the open-backed Rose Cut star design, a silver protective disc, the encasement of the watch movement and face, and the watch crystal encircled by a border of Rose Cut diamonds. The inside of the smooth silver casing, protecting the watch's movement, reads "SG" with a key between the letters, all within a diamond. The piece is marked with a hand-engraved "49979", a stamped "45809", and a French crab hallmark. Additionally, a cursive "RA" is engraved on the watch movement's regulator. This showstopping piece is ready to wear on a favorite chain and would make a phenomenal addition to any Victorian collection.

Measurements: The watch measures 1 1/4" including the crown and bail, 7/8" without. The watch face measures nearly 3/4" in diameter. The piece is 1/2" at its deepest.

Condition: The pocket watch pendant remains in excellent antique condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and sterling silver setting and all of the diamonds are intact and securely set. The crown turns properly and the diamond-encrusted bail is secure. The watch runs but it does not keep time accurately. The piece could be taken to a horologist to have the movement addressed for an additional cost.
