Victorian 18kt Sterling Rose Cut Diamond Salamander Pin 1ctw

SKU: 37900

$3,995
A magnificent and very decorative pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This sterling-topped 18kt gold  three-dimensional Salamander is encrusted in sparkling Rose Cut diamonds representing scales. The pin is highly detailed, including webbed feet, a very stylized characteristic which was popular during the Victorian (1880) period. With a long curved tail and body, he has two ruby cabochons depicting his eyes. A split tongue emerges from his mouth, which is lined with delicate rows of teeth. An etched pattern on the edges of the piece provides further texture and adds to the scaly appearance of the design. Hand wrought, the underside of the pin is beautifully azured and reveals a gold bar pin and c-catch clasp, perfect for fastening securely to a favorite garment. A fantastic and impressive piece, it would make a unique addition to any collection!

Measurements: The pin measures 2 3/4" long, is 7/8" at the widest point, and 1/4" thick. The total pennyweight of the piece is 6.0 dwt.

Condition: The overall condition of the pin is very good. The bar pin and clasp are secure, and all of the rose cut diamonds and rubies are intact. There is some normal surface wear to the engraved texture, which is minor and not uncommon for a Victorian era piece. One of the tiny toes of the back foot is missing, but is not noticeable when worn. There is a natural patina on the surface of the piece, which adds depth and lends a genuine antique appearance to the design.
