Bohemian garnet jewelry dates back to the 19th century. During this time, garnets were one of the most popular types of stones used in jewelry production. The garnets were often placed close together in an effort to produce a more pronounced color and brightness than when they were set singularly. Most often, bohemian garnet jewelry was set in a closed back setting made of rose gold gilt over silver; this method is sometimes referred to as 'garnet gold'.

A gorgeous fiery red Bohemian garnet crown necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This beautiful gold-filled piece is comprised of a crown pendant that hangs from a delicate gold filled chain. The crown adorns 8 garnet stones along its band, which are square in shape and bead set within a channel setting. In the middle of the design is an eye-catching zig-zag row set with delicate bead-set garnet stones. Seven garnet cabochons represent each point of the crown, and are accented by pairs of delicate bezel-set garnet stones at the base. The very bottom of the pendant has a gold filled bar representing the back of the crown, which is detalied with an engraved ridged texture. There are 4 loops on the back of the pendant, two of which are attached to the chain it hangs from. The necklace fastens together in the back with a simple gold spring ring clasp that is stamped "N/C" and "1/20 14K GF." A beautiful piece, this regal necklace would make a fabulous addition to any collection!
