An absolutely stunning and important malachite necklace from the Victorian (ca1880) era! The necklace is comprised of 9 alternating links which hang from a 15kt yellow gold chain. The chain is a handmade snake chain that rests beautifully on the neck. Large malachite stone links alternate with hollow gold urns which all hang from the chain. The malachite stones are oval in shape and have a slightly convex face and graduate in size. Each malachite stone is bezel set with an open back and surrounded by a twisted gold rope frame. They hang from the chain with a triple loop topper. Resting in between each stone link are very lightweight gold urn links. The malachite has fantastic green color which looks wonderful with the vibrant 15kt yellow setting and chain. The clasp of the necklace is hidden within the gold chain.
