Early Victorian 14kt Pearl & Woven Hair Mourning Pendant

SKU: 39186

This rare mourning pendant from the Eary Victorian (ca1850) era is quite an unusual piece! Crafted in 14kt gold, the decorative pendant serves as a fine example of the mourning jewelry tradition. Two rows of natural pave pearls form a lovely double border, surrounding a glass window at the center. The see-through window exposes a band of finely hand-woven hair below, the keepsake of a lost loved one. At the top of the pendant is a simple gold bail, perfect for hanging the piece from a favorite chain. A wonderful antique mourning piece, it is rich in history and would be perfect for the serious Victorian collector!

Measurements: The pendant hangs 1 1/4" long (including the bail at the top), measures 3/4" wide, and 3/16" thick.

Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. All of the pearls are intact and securely set, and the bail at the top is securely attached. The glass window remains intact and free of scratches, preserving the woven hair below.
