Early Victorian Rare 15kt Gold + Rock Crystal 3-Locket Bracelet
This outstanding locket bracelet from the Early Victorian era (ca1850) is an incredibly rare and unusual find! Crafted in vibrant 15kt gold, it has a trio of lockets that line the front, each boasting an attractive geometric shape. The face and back of each locket is paneled in clear rock quartz crystal, forming the "windows" of the open-faced design. Additional bars of rock quartz are set along the exterior of each gold locket frame. A series of gold prongs hold each carved piece securely in place. The faceted edges give the rock quartz a prismatic light-catching effect, adding further dimension. Each locket opens from a hinged "door" along the front to reveal a hollow space inside, perfect for storing a collection of special photographs or small mementos.
Four hinges are located throughout the bracelet, which are placed in between each locket, and at either side of the bracelet's band. This multi-hinged design gives greater flexibility to the design, and allows for more comfortable wear. An opening at the back of the piece also doubles as the catch, where a push clasp is disguised within the decorative closure. A gold safety chain provides additional security. Completing the design are 3-dimensional accents along the bracelet band, including a flourish of pillar-style shoulders at the sides. A truly remarkable antique treasure, this bracelet is as breathtaking as it is rare. It would make an irreplaceable addition to any fine jewelry collection!
Measurements: The interior diameter of the bracelet (where a wrist would rest) measures about 2" across. It would fit nicely on a small sized wrist. The center locket is slightly larger than the others, measuring about 1 1/8" wide and tall, and 1/2" thick. The outer two lockets measure about 1" wide and tall, and are 1/2" thick. The bracelet band measures just under 1/2" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. All of hinged links move freely as designed, and the clasp and safety chain fasten securely. The locket doors open easily and snap securely shut. All of the rock quartz plaques are intact and securely set. Though there is some very slight surface wear to a few of the rock crystal plaques, it is so minor as to be scarcely visible, unless under close inspection. There are no visible chips or scratches to the windows, and no significant dents or scratches in the gold.
