Georgian 18kt/Silver Carved Agate, Ruby & Diamond Link Bracelet
This outstanding bracelet from the Georgian era (ca1830) is positively magnificent! The rare and unusual handmade piece is comprised of multiple links, which are substantial in size and crafted in 18kt gold and silver. At the center of each link is a wonderful intaglio carved from banded agate stone, which has a creamy blue surface and a layer of black below. The carved images depict a variety of motifs, including the cherub cupid with bow and arrow drawn, figural portraits, and a running dog at the center surrounded by multiple symbols in the sky. The central intaglios are surrounded by an incredible border of luscious natural rubies, which are set in gold and weigh approximately 8.5ctw combined.
Alternating with each ruby and agate intaglio is a stunning rose cut diamond link. The rose cut diamonds are set in silver, and add a beautiful sparkle to the already magnificent design! The diamonds have a combined weight of approximately .94ctw. Fine gold rings attach each link together, allowing the bracelet to wrap comfortably around the wrist when worn. The two ends meet at a push clasp, which is disguised within the final link of the bracelet. A gold safety chain with a spring ring clasp provides additional security. An exceptional Georgian piece, it is rich in history and looks simply breathtaking when worn. Perfect for the antique jewelry lover, it would make an impressive addition to any collection!
Measurements: The bracelet measures 6 5/8" long, and would fit nicely on a small to medium sized wrist. All of the links are handmade and vary in size and shape. The largest central link measures 1 1/8" wide, 1" tall, and 3/16" thick. The narrowest point of the bracelet measures 3/8" wide at the smallest final link, beside the clasp.
Condition: The bracelet is in excellent Georgian condition. Besides normal surface wear that is commensurate with age, there is no apparent damage to the setting or stones. Based on the age and unique handmade nature of the design, the handmade links are not uniform, and display variance in shape, size, and design. This adds to the beauty and special desirability of authentic Georgian jewelry. All of the agate intaglios, rubies, and diamonds are intact and securely set. The central intaglio has a small chip at the side, which is covered by the ruby border and not visible when the piece is worn. The clasp and safety chain fasten securely and are in good working condition. There is a natural patina on the surface of the setting, which is a normal characteristic of antique jewelry.
