Victorian 14kt Onyx & Enamel Fringe Earrings
An outstanding pair of onyx and enamel earrings from the Victorian era (ca1880)! Crafted in 14kt gold, these substantial earrings dangle with lovely movement, and have a hanging fringe design. At the center is an oval ring carved from onyx stone, which has a rich, black color and is smoothly polished for a glossy finish. Delicate onyx balls hang freely inside the open hoop, and a row of onyx spears form the fringe that hangs at the base. At the top of each earring is a gold surmount with black enamel accents, a large onyx bead, and a gold earring wire. When worn, the earrings frame the face dramatically, making quite an impressive statement piece. Perfect for special occasions, they would be right at home in any Victorian collection!
Measurements: Each earring hangs approximately 3 3/8" in total length, including the earring wires. The onyx hoops measure 1 3/8" tall and 1" wide. The onyx beads at the top are approximately 13mm in size. Each onyx spear at the base hangs about 3/4" long.
Condition: The earrings are in excellent antique condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting. There is a minor chip on one of the onyx spears but is not noticeable when worn. There is some light wear to the black enamel, but it remains well preserved. The earring wires are securely attached at the top.
