Victorian 14kt/Sterling & French Paste Earrings 5ct
French paste is a Vintage jewelry term used to describe the practice of using faceted cut glass, cut in the shape of a real gemstone, instead of using real gems. This process, which was developed in the 1700's, created the look of a sparkling gemstone or diamond but cost much less than real stones.
A stunning pair of French paste earrings from the late Victorian (ca1900) era! These dazzling earrings feature gorgeous crystals that are round in shape and beautifully faceted on the front and back. Each 5ct crystal rests within a closed back sterling setting, and is held within a pinched bezel. The facets give the crystals a fabulous light-catching quality and lively appearance that could easily be mistaken for the real thing! They hang from simple 14kt gold earring wires, and dangle just below the ear. Both feminine and versatile, they would be perfect for daily wear or special occasions!
Measurements: Each earring hangs 5/8" long. The crystals have a 1/2" diameter and measure 3/8" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting or gold wires. Both French paste stones are intact and securely set.
