Victorian 18kt Chalcedony "Find Me Love" Swivel Fob
A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself, making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket. A spinner or swivel fob has two or more sides, which can be turned or swiveled within a moveable bracket. This allows the wearer a choice as to which side is displayed prominently!
An exquisite and unusual spinner fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This artistic fob holds a chalcedony plaque within a decorative 18kt gold frame. An intricate intaglio image is carved on both sides of the chalcedony plaque, making the piece double-sided in design. A family crest topped with ribbon is featured on one side. On the other side is a charming cherub angel, who sits holding a rod that hangs a crescent moon. Surrounding the image are the sentimental words "FIND ME LOVE" in French. The milky color of the chalcedony looks wonderful paired with the rosy gold setting. At the top of the handle is a gold bail, perfect for hanging the piece from a favorite chain. A spectacular Victorian piece, it is perfect for the antique fob collector!
Measurements: Laying flat, the entire fob measures approximately 1 5/8" long, 7/8" wide, and 1/8" thick. The fob measures 1 1/4" tall when freestanding. The total pennyweight of the piece is 4.8 dwt.
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting or to the carved chalcedony plaque, which is intact and free of chips or scratches. The spinning swivel moves properly and snaps securely into place when shut. The bail at the top of the piece is secure and intact.
