Victorian English Sterling Etched Leaf Motif Locket
A wonderful sterling silver locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This decorative piece is beautifully etched with a leaf motif on the front surface. A fine engine-turned pattern gives texture to the background, and surrounding the outside edge is a raised border on both sides of the piece. When opened, the interior of the locket reveals two spaces to store special photographs inside. Several English hallmarks are stamped on the back of the piece, including "A&L" and the symbols "b", an anchor, and a lion. The locket hangs from a large fluted bail at the top, and would look perfect paired with a favorite silver chain. A wonderful example of Victorian sterling artistry, it would make a special addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs 2 3/8" long (including the bail), measures 1 1/2" wide, and is 3/8" at the thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting or textured leaf design on the front. There is some normal surface wear to the silver on the back of the locket, which is minimal and not unusual for a Victorian piece. The locket opens and closes easily and securely, and the bail is secure and intact.
