Victorian English Sterling Mixed Metals Floral Locket
A beautiful mixed metals locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This lovely piece is crafted in sterling silver and is of English origin. A feminine floral motif graces the front surface, comprised of blooming flowers and leaves in rose and green gold accents. Engraved details provide texture to the design, including a scalloped repousse border that surrounds the central image. On the back of the piece is a removable glass frame, the perfect place to store a favorite photograph. Several English hallmarks are stamped on the back, including the letter "b," the symbols of an anchor and a lion, and the maker's initials "WCM." It hangs from a fluted sterling bail, which is perfect for hanging from a long Victorian chain. It is a lovely example of Victorian artistry and would make a wonderful keepsake addition to any collection!
Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 1/8" long, including the bail. The locket itself measures 1 5/8" tall, 1 1/8" wide, and 1/4" thick. The oval frame for storing a picture measures approximately 3/4" tall and 1/2" wide.
Condition: The overall condition of the locket is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling setting or mixed metals gold details. The locket opens easily and stays securely closed. The bail and removable glass frame are intact and secure.
